dear john and the jersey shore

During a six-hour marathon watch of Jersey Shore yesterday, I saw the trailer for Dear John about fifty gazillion times. Now, I’m letting everyone in on a little secret…I’m a big sucker for excessively dramatic love stories from about Christmas time through Febraury 14. Outside of that timeline, I will never, EVER watch a sappy film. It’s just the way it is.

Anyway, after seeing the trailer for the movie during hour three of the guido/guidette reality lifestyle show, I did a bit of researching on this Dear John business. It started with my roommate telling me that “Dear John” is the name of a type of letter written by one-half of a relationship when they are wanting to break up. At first we sat wondering if this was coincidence, but then remembered we were talking about Nicholas Sparks here and, of course, there had to be a double meaning. Wikipedia being my research source (it is helpful in searches like these) we found the film to be about a guy named John and in a situation where he exchanged letters with a woman while he was fighting in war. I refused to look any further on the novel synopsis because I may just go see the film and don’t want the ending ruined…even if the title gives it away a bit.
